The KDKD Pet of the Week is Wrigley! A probable Yorkie or Silkie with gorgeous silver highlights and a fondness for lap-napping.
Adrianne (Host) :
All right, welcome back to Katie, Katie, Pet of the Week, brought to you by Davin Newman State Farm and the Dog Grimmer. This is Adrienne, and with me is Miss Laura Himes from the Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor and the Clinton Animal Shelter. Hello, Miss Laura. Good afternoon. And who do we have here today?
Laura (Guest) :
I brought, well, we're going to call him Wrigley. I don't know what he is. We don't have a name for him yet as far as I know, but I think it fits him. He's cute and kind of a different name. He just came in today, so he still has five days hold. But if we can get him into a foster to adopt, it would be awesome. Uh, Wrigley is a either Yorkie mix or a Silky mix, something along that line. He has been trimmed up a little bit. It's kind of an unusual trim. It looks like something like what you would do at home. I did like what I do with my dogs, just kind of trim them up here and there. So he's not even by any means, but he's a handsome little man. He has not been to his vet yet, so we don't really know all of his, you know. If he's perfectly healthy or not, he does look like he could be older. But with little dogs, it's very deceiving because most of the time what we do is we pull up a lip and we look at their teeth. Little dogs are kind of a little bit different than everybody else because little dogs always have bad teeth. Every time. So he's got perfect four canines, but the back ones are missing or have been broken off, which could be from trying to get out of something. It could be due to age. It could be about anything. He's a little bit thin, but... In all aspects, if you look at him, he really does not look unhealthy at all. We have not seen anything at the initial check in that that looks like anything that would be less than, OK, you need to have your vaccinations, a little bit more medicine, a good dental and lots of groceries. You know, I mean, I just think he needs a good set of diet plan as far as like what kind of food he should be eating. And I think he'll bounce right back. So right now he's just a good cuddle bug. He's a little nervous, but he likes to he likes to be held.
Adrianne (Host) :
So he's used.
Laura (Guest) :
of people for sure yeah he let me scoop him right up and snuggle him like a teddy bear and i thought he would get sick of this pretty fast but we're just chilling yeah so he's happy as long as he's just being cuddled yeah yeah he's he's a sweet guy you know i don't know if he's used to it or if he or if he just needs it you know but either way it's a good thing you know it's like i just i like to be held and talk to you really let's just hang out for a while huh
Adrianne (Host) :
He's got that pretty, kind of the silky platinum gold coloration. Yeah, he's got the light color.
Laura (Guest) :
And, you know, whenever, if his hair grows out a lot thicker and everything, it could be darker, too. So, you know, it's always kind of one of those where it's kind of neat to see how they change whenever they first come in. Right.
Adrianne (Host) :
He's got the darker on his ears, too. And then with that light silver kind of base coat, it looks very pretty. Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
I know a lot of girls that would like to have that color. I would like to have that color.
Adrianne (Host) :
If I could get my hair to look like that, I'd be thrilled.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah. Like, I could have the silver if it's the pretty silver. Right. Mine's the stress silver. Right.
Adrianne (Host) :
Different kind of silver, but I'll claim it, too. Yeah, it's okay. So if you want to foster Wrigley for a day and take him to your hairstylist and say, I want to look like this. I think he'd be okay with that.
Laura (Guest) :
This is the color I'm going for.
Adrianne (Host) :
Okay.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah. I just, I would really like to see him go to a foster home very soon. If he, you know, like I said, we've got five days before he can be officially adopted, you know, and with that, he has to make sure that he's fully vetted, which is not a difficult job. We can, we can get that worked into. I would really like to see him get out of there before the big 4th of July, because the more dogs that we can get out and, Into foster homes where it's quiet and calm and nice, the more that we've got a few that are out back and I really want to see them come inside the building because I'm not going to say don't shoot off fireworks because I know that's not going to happen. Right. You know, everybody wants to have the celebration and I get it. You know, that's cool. But it terrifies some of our dogs. And if you've already got dogs, please kind of keep that in mind. You know, keep them somewhere where they're inside a basement or inside the house. Turn on a radio or a television or something. It really does not cost that much to turn on an item like that to keep your calm babies happy. Right. It's better than having your dog wind up two counties over. So it's easier.
Adrianne (Host) :
Give them a safe space to hide in.
Laura (Guest) :
Yes.
Adrianne (Host) :
Make sure they have their collar and their tags on. Yes. And, you know, Clay here at the studio said that his dog Bella normally is not scared of storms, but this year they've really been bothering her. So even if your pet has been okay with fireworks in the past, keep in mind that this year could always be different because who knows what they're thinking. Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
I've got one that's the same thing. I mean, for years he was fine. And the last year and a half, he pants and he paces. And it's like it's no different than any time before. But for all of a sudden now he's realizing what's going on or something's just affecting him differently. So, yeah, I understand. You know, just because last year was great doesn't mean this year will be. Right.
Adrianne (Host) :
Just make sure that there's a way to find you on them. Just in case, I see so many Facebook posts every year that, oh, a friend was over and they opened the door and we know not to let her out, but she just Zoomed.
Laura (Guest) :
Right. Take those precautions ahead of time. They're not called on purposes or intentionals. They're called accidents. So, I mean, just kind of be prepared a little bit ahead of time. Maybe slow some of that down. We'll try to take care of as many of them as we can until they get back to their people. Right.
Adrianne (Host) :
And if you can foster somebody, if you have a nice safe place where the dogs can be indoors and make a pillow fort and listen to music during the fireworks, you know what? Think about setting up a puppy pillow fort for this 4th of July. They would appreciate it. Call the shelter and get some fosters. What do you think, Wrigley? You want to foster for 4th of July?
Laura (Guest) :
And anybody out there that's listening that likes small dogs only, we've got two of these little guys. The other one has a vet appointment for first thing tomorrow morning. He has a dislocated hip when he came in. So we're going to get that looked at and get that corrected. And then he will be. available for foster foster to adopt however you choose i mean he's a little bit bigger than wrigley but very well behaved very quiet walks great on a leash is pretty much house broke i mean that's the big one you know if you can get them where they're already ready to go on the routine where you can take them outside do their business it works out so nice but And lots and lots of big dogs. So if you're looking for a bigger dog, please check us out. We've got medium-sized dogs. We've got big dogs. We've just got the whole spectrum. We even have a couple of puppies in right now. So if you're looking for somebody little and young, we've got that too.
Adrianne (Host) :
You know, if you have a dog in mind, call the shelter because you all know what you have.
Laura (Guest) :
And they won't steer you wrong. We want them to go to the right home. I mean, you know, if you want somebody that's laid back and going to be very calm and hang out, Cinnamon's probably not your girl. You know, she's more of a high energy and I'm not digging on her. She's she's a really good girl, but she does have to go out and run around a little bit. That's just her thing. So, you know, if you've got to be back in yard, she can go out, run around and come in and lay on the couch with you. She just has to go burn off little spots of energy every now and then. She's ready to come in and hang out.
Adrianne (Host) :
So and if you get bored and you need a dog with energy who likes to play ball and run in circles. Oh, yeah. Talk about cinnamon.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah, we've got so many right now that would be great for somebody who is a jogger or children who like to go out and play ball in the backyard. I mean, they would love to go chase after the ball.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
We've got a lot of them that like to go play chase. I mean, they just need some energy to go burn off. And anybody who's had children that were like, I don't know, 10 to 12 in that area, there's some energy to burn off. Sure. Yeah. You and the dog go outside for a while. Right. Come back in here in a few. Everything will be great.
Adrianne (Host) :
Get on the sprinkler and take a drink.
Laura (Guest) :
There you go. There you go. Be perfect.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
He's about down. Right?
Laura (Guest) :
Wrigley?
Laura (Guest) :
Wrigley's taking a nap on Adrian's lap just in case anybody can't see this.
Adrianne (Host) :
You're just doing a great job, Wrigley.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah, he's just, you know, it makes you feel good whenever they come in and they're a little bit stressed out and worried. And they come in and they do that because they feel secure.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
It's like, this is somebody I can trust. You know, this lady's going to take care of me. It's quite a compliment. It is. If you can earn a dog's trust, you're a pretty good person.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, thanks, Ms. Lark.
Laura (Guest) :
just the way it is just the way it is you can always tell a good person because if your dog doesn't like him you need to be you need to be paying attention right there might be something there but they always know yes and Wrigley you're just a sweetheart So I think we're still doing the $75 adoption fee. We've got lots of kitties now, too. Right. So if you're looking for a cat or a kitten, please check us out. We've had a lot of baby kitties come in here recently. So a lot of little antenna kitties.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, boy.
Laura (Guest) :
We do recommend, well, I shouldn't say recommend. We do suggest if you would like to have two kittens, that works really good because they entertain each other. You do not have to be the constant entertainment or your curtains or that kind of thing. They just do better a lot of times if there are two.
Adrianne (Host) :
They entertain each other. Otherwise, it's, hey, look at me, play with me, look at me, play with me.
Laura (Guest) :
I'm going to run up your curtains just to get your attention, you know.
Adrianne (Host) :
Please don't. No, two kittens raised together, I think, is a really good idea.
Laura (Guest) :
It is. It works out very well for everyone. It's not a must, though. I mean, if you just have room for one baby kitty, that's fine, too. We understand that. But be prepared. Right. Lots of toys.
Adrianne (Host) :
Lots of toys.
Laura (Guest) :
Maybe some extra time on your hands, that kind of thing. Yeah, maybe just take the curtains down for a while. Who needs curtains? Who needs curtains? But yeah, give us a call anytime, 660-885-7999. We're kind of alternating days back and forth. We're trying to get it to where everybody has a day that they can make it in time. I believe Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday were open from noon until 4, and then Tuesdays and Thursdays are open from 2 until 6. So Tuesdays and Thursdays, if you've got a job that you get off work at 5, you still have an hour after that. We are asking that you still make an appointment so you can have a one-on-one meet and greet with whoever it is you're looking to meet. And like I said before, if you've got any questions, please ask because they will shoot you straight. You know, this is good with this, this, and this. This is bad with this, this, and this. You know, cat or dog, they pretty well know. Sure thing. Always need fosters, always need volunteers, always need walkers. You know, so just, you know, if you're interested, please give us a call. And if no one answers, please leave a message. Somebody will call you back. They're not just sitting there looking at the phone, I promise. They're doing something. So... Lots of laundry usually.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, gosh. Speaking of laundry, the washing machine I saw on Facebook, did you get that replaced yet, or are we still trying to?
Laura (Guest) :
We've got one that came in, and I think we're going to maybe see if we can upsize it just a little. Oh, good. But I think everything's working out fine. I think it was just that we were kind of overwhelming the one we had. Oh, I see. Not that we have any laundry or anything, but, you know, it's like as a washing machine is going, when are they going to go home?
Laura (Guest) :
Right.
Adrianne (Host) :
I need to rest. You mean you don't usually run those 24-7? Pretty close.
Laura (Guest) :
It's even worse in the winter. That's what's bad. No, I believe it. Yeah. I believe you've knocked him completely out.
Adrianne (Host) :
I think I have.
Laura (Guest) :
Well, see, your cats wouldn't mind.
Adrianne (Host) :
My cats can barely stand each other, let alone a new introduction.
Laura (Guest) :
It's like how to have fireworks at your house. Oh my gosh. Without buying a thing.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh sure, they'll just bounce right off the walls and that's all the thumps and booms I need. Wrigley, you are awfully sweet though. If you give Wrigley a lap and just hang out for a little bit, he will sulk right out. So you've got to come see this guy. He is awfully sweet.
Laura (Guest) :
So if you're interested in any of them, give us a call. If you haven't heard of anything that interests you yet, please check us out on Facebook. We usually update every day, every time we get a new person in. Person meaning dog or cat. Right. Every time we get a new baby in, we try to get pictures up and locations up so anybody who is missing somebody, they'll be able to look and say, oh, that's my baby. Or, you know, we want them to go back home if they've been misplaced. Right. We don't want them to be there just because nobody looked, you know, so.
Adrianne (Host) :
You don't have so many empty kennels that you're just desperate to fill them with other people's dogs.
Laura (Guest) :
You're funny. No, if they have homes, you want them to go home. Definitely. It's just so much better that... I mean, we are a safe haven, don't get me wrong. But it's very loud. And if you've got somebody that's not used to that, somebody that's smaller, somebody that's been used to a quiet home, anything like that, it's very nerve wracking for them. And it's not very healthy. Stress is never a good thing. Human pet doesn't matter. You know, it's just not a good thing. So if we can get them out and get them either back home or get them in a foster, it works out so much better.
Adrianne (Host) :
So you can see that being good for Wrigley here.
Laura (Guest) :
Oh, yeah. I mean, he went from bark, bark, bark to laying on your lap. And this is great, you know.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yeah, you just need a little peace and quiet, didn't you, bud?
Laura (Guest) :
Oh, yeah. And we don't know his situation as far as he may have been running down streets and is hot and tired and just collapses or he may just feel very secure, which is where I'm going. He feels very safe right now.
Laura (Guest) :
Sweet buddy.
Adrianne (Host) :
All right. We'll call the shelter, foster, donate, volunteer, adopt if you can. Come on out and meet somebody. If you just want to see Wrigley for yourself, they'll put you up in a play yard. If you make an appointment, you can sit down and see how quickly you can fall asleep in your lap. We'll make a challenge out of it. Get a stopwatch.
Laura (Guest) :
How quickly he can win you over.
Adrianne (Host) :
It's not very long.
Laura (Guest) :
All right, is that everything we had for today, Ms. Laura? I think that's everything I can think of. Just keep your pets safe over the Fourth of July and keep lots of water out.
Adrianne (Host) :
All right, well, thank you to our sponsors, David Newman State Farm and The Dog Groomer. Thank you, Ms. Laura, for coming by. Thanks for always having us out. Oh, absolutely. Wrigley, thanks for the snooze. You're adorable. I feel better rested just watching you. This has been Adrienne with KDKD Pet of the Week, and thanks to all of you for listening. Take care.
