Dominic may be the "puppiest" puppy I've ever met: waggy tail, floppy ears, tons of playful curiosity, cute clumsiness with adorable disregard for minor bonks and trips, and puppy breath! He's a gorgeous coppery red with floppy ears and a touch of natural eyeliner, with lanky legs and sturdy paws that suggest he may be tall someday. He loves people and exploring and chewing and kisses, and he's so gosh-darn cute that even Miss Laura had to take a minute or two and laugh at his adorable antics.
Adrianne (Host) :
and the dog groomer this is adrian and with me in the studio is miss laura hymes of clinton animal rescue endeavor and the clinton animal shelter hello miss laura hello and who is this cutie eating treats right now i brought dominic in with me today dominic you handsome little baby he's yeah he's
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah, he's got a brother and a sister, both at the shelter. His sister is already spoken for. But Dominic and Mason are still looking for their forever homes. They're reddish brown in color, have the white on the chest, black around their nose just a little bit. And like you said, it looks like he's got eyeliner around. He's got real dark around his big brown eyes. So handsome. Very sweet little man. As a guest, we're saying black-mouthed cur and maybe some kind of a hound, maybe some boxer mixed in there. He's just kind of a conglomerate. He's just a baby. Yes, he is. He's a baby dog. So the all-American mutt-type dog. So he's, at this point in his life, he is just... Happy to have somebody to talk to him and pet him and pay attention to him. Very well behaved. I mean, he's still baby, so he's still going to have some learning to do. Like today, I just I carried him in. He's small enough.
Adrianne (Host) :
You just pack him like a baby.
Laura (Guest) :
So he'll he'll still be. have to learn how to be walked on a leash and things like that but if you get him in a routine now it's not going to take very long he's going to learn that very quickly we don't do it at the shelter just because we try to keep them from contacting anything in our soil you know we've had parvo in in the past you know and it never goes away so we just don't walk babies on the soil there we just know not to do that he's had his first set of vaccinations but he will still have to have the other two before he's completely vaccinated and and safe to go wherever um and we still don't like to put him in contact just in case you know you never know no risk it and it's it's really a bad thing so if you can just bypass that do you know it's easy so it's definitely worth holding off on leash training for a gets that second shot he gets to go home and or foster to adopt home or anything along that line i'm sure those people will be able to take them out in their backyard start doing the training there you know if you've got a nice clean backyard you don't have to worry about it so i know he's just full of energy he's very spunky but he's still the baby where he's gonna do a lot of playing and then here in a So good nap time coming up here before long.
Adrianne (Host) :
He really is right in that toddler stage. He's so cute and clumsy and likes to see everything.
Laura (Guest) :
We were talking about that. He's just not 100% coordinated yet. neither am i but so we we don't we don't judge here so his is just a lot more cute than mine you know kind of thing you really wear it well yes he does he's so cute he likes to grab his tail every now and then too that towel slipped out from under you there buddy Yes, he did.
Adrianne (Host) :
He leaned too hard into a scratch and just went right over it. Didn't slow him down at all. It didn't.
Laura (Guest) :
You know, that's the positives of being low to the ground.
Adrianne (Host) :
That's recovery.
Laura (Guest) :
So far, he's been good with everybody. But right now is a perfect time. If you've got dogs, other dogs, other cats, things that you want to teach him to stay away from, things like that, you know, if you've got chickens or whatever. Right now, they're going to be very... Fun and entertaining. But if you teach him, you can look at him, but you don't touch him. You don't bark at him. You don't. Right now is the perfect time to do that. Because he's going to learn all kinds of stuff here within the next three weeks, six weeks, eight weeks, whatever. You know, I mean, he's just going to be a fast learner. Right.
Adrianne (Host) :
All that curiosity is going to make him great for training.
Laura (Guest) :
Exactly. And you reinforce all the good stuff. And no-no on the bad stuff. Ripper man.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
My grandmother did it with a paper, just a newspaper wadded up. You smack your hand and it makes a loud noise. It doesn't hurt them, but they don't like it. And it's just a good way to, it's like, I'm going to pop this paper if you don't behave. And they weren't.
Adrianne (Host) :
They got to where as soon as you started rolling up the newspaper.
Laura (Guest) :
It was like, okay.
Adrianne (Host) :
I'm sorry, I'm done.
Laura (Guest) :
I'm going to go over here now. Right. But it does nothing to them. I mean, it doesn't hurt them in any way, shape, or form, but they know that that's no.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
You just don't do that. So perfect way to teach right now.
Adrianne (Host) :
That's right.
Laura (Guest) :
Oh, we got a G in the air.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, my goodness.
Laura (Guest) :
It would be great if our foot would actually hit the ear. Part of that coordination. Yeah. We're just about there. We're so close. Still working on it. Oh, you guys. He has such beautiful eyes. Very expressive eyes. Just looks at you and melts your heart. So such a good boy.
Adrianne (Host) :
Well, and his face sort of looks serious. Like when you brought him in, he had such a serious face. And that tail in the back was just going. Oh, yeah. Bunk, bunk, bunk, bunk, bunk.
Laura (Guest) :
Nothing wrong with the tail coordination.
Adrianne (Host) :
It really is a very cute combination. And floppy ears. I love the floppy ears. You are just so cute. Yes, you are. We're talking about you. What do you think? Do you want to kiss my nose? Thank you. Oh, yes.
Laura (Guest) :
Good kisses.
Adrianne (Host) :
Good boy. Oh, my goodness. You don't know where to go next.
Laura (Guest) :
So I think he would be good for just about everyone. You know, if you have issues with walking, he may not, you know, he may get in front of you and trip you, that kind of thing. If you have teeny tiny children, he may not understand just because he's a baby, too. You know, he may jump. He's got sharp little toenails just because that's his age. But, you know. He's so cute just to watch. I mean, just sit there and watch him do all these funny twists and jumps.
Adrianne (Host) :
That wobbly little hop.
Laura (Guest) :
And every time he learns something new. Like right now he's over smelling the walls and it's like, I've never seen this before.
Adrianne (Host) :
Dominic, what are we doing?
Laura (Guest) :
Eating dust bunnies.
Adrianne (Host) :
That's a yucky. No yucky.
Laura (Guest) :
Come on. Oh, there it is.
Adrianne (Host) :
See? Just make the noise. That was so good. You listened. You cannot eat electrical wire. I'll let you play with just about anything else in here. Ka-thunk, as he runs into the wall. You can bonk your head. That's allowed. Don't play tug-of-war with the radio station, okay? But we...
Laura (Guest) :
we have several adult dogs right now we do have two or three puppies still in in-house at the moment we are trying to get some of them located to different areas where they will be safe and raised safe and if we can get them to another rescue or something like that they will probably go unless they have a future somewhere and we don't want that to sound harsh or anything but right now we're so full we we have dogs everywhere our cats we still have plenty of kittens and cats um Not quite as many as we do dogs, but, you know, this year we've done pretty well with our kitties being a little bit lesser, although we did have several kittens all at once. And we still have plenty to pick from. Don't get me wrong. It's not like we're down to three or anything. But lots of babies to pick from. But if you're interested in a dog, right now is a perfect time to come down. If you find somebody that you're interested in but you're not sure, take him home and do the foster to adopt thing. It works really good. You can see, you know, this is the perfect dog for me. Or, well, this may not fit my criteria just perfect. Let's try a different one. And like I said, there's no judgment there. You know, we want it to be a good fit. We want it to be a permanent fit. So, you know, if it doesn't work the first time, try something different.
Laura (Guest) :
Sure.
Laura (Guest) :
I know, babe. We have our annual, one of our, it's going to be annual, fundraisers. This is going to be the first time, premiere. Let's see if we can do well on it. October the 5th at 7 o'clock in the room right next to the Elks. It's still theirs, I believe. It's kind of like their convention center part of it.
Adrianne (Host) :
Like the banquet room.
Laura (Guest) :
The banquet room.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yes. Thank you.
Laura (Guest) :
The proper verbiage. We are going to try our first ever Vegas night and see if that does a good job and has a good turnout. So far, we've got some sponsors on several of our tables. So it sounds like we're starting off in the right foot. There's going to be roulette, plinko, a craps table, blackjack. I think that's I may have missed one. I'm not sure. Yeah. But I believe that we're going to have several tables. If you purchase advance tickets, they're $35. If you wait until that night, they're $40. $35 and $40, I believe. Yeah, $35 advance, $40 at the door. They're going to sell them at the Chamber of Commerce if you're interested in purchasing early. You can sponsor a table. If you've got a table of six people, it's $200. Everyone gets chips. There's going to be special things on the table. all kinds of little fun, you know, cutesy ideas and things to take home. And at the end of the night, we're going to have winners. I think it sounds fantastic. You know, it's new to us, so, you know, it's going to be kind of a learning curve, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I think so. And all the money will go back to help with spaying and neutering and heartworms that we've got more this year than we thought we were going to have. I do. Abandon puppies and abandon kittens and all kinds of good things that we're going to help support and take care of. So come out and have fun with your friends or family and help support your local shelter.
Adrianne (Host) :
Good time for a good cause. Can't do any better than that.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah. I think it will be a lot of fun.
Adrianne (Host) :
What do you think, Dawn?
Laura (Guest) :
I don't think, he's like, I don't think I get to go. No. You have to be a certain age, baby. Too little. Too young for this.
Adrianne (Host) :
You can't gamble. And you'd be bad at it anyway.
Laura (Guest) :
He'd be good at eating the chips. I heard these poker chips are really good.
Adrianne (Host) :
These dog treats are extra crunchy, you guys. Yeah. Oop. How did that happen? Did you hit the treat box with your tail? He did.
Laura (Guest) :
Did you make a noise?
Adrianne (Host) :
Can you do it again?
Laura (Guest) :
Hey, bud. What you doing? He's just so, you know, wants to learn everything and smell everything. Yeah, you're pretty curious. Kind of like a kitty, only in puppy form. Lookie here. Look what she's got. What would you like one to be? Look at that. What is that?
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, there it is. Hello. Did you find the treat? You are so cute.
Laura (Guest) :
Oh, we dropped part of it.
Adrianne (Host) :
Well, maybe have an accident.
Adrianne (Host) :
We'll find it.
Adrianne (Host) :
Let's see. I think the canine special is still going on for a few more days. Yes.
Laura (Guest) :
$50 to adopt your favorite pet. And I don't remember what cats are right now. I'm terrible about remembering that. I believe 35 or 45. That sounds right.
Adrianne (Host) :
I don't have the exact number either. But the cats are also on special. You can go to Clinton Animal Shelter on Facebook or call 660-885-7999 and find out for yourself.
Laura (Guest) :
yeah stop by check out we've got a brand new board outside so even if we're not open you know if you're out cruising around in the middle of night don't have anything else to do stop by the animal shelter out there on the front right next to the door we have a new board that has all of our dog pictures on it and hopefully here soon we will have another board that can have all of our kitties on it But right now we have all of our dogs on display. So come down and check them out. And that way, you know, if you're just not real sure, you can go look at them and kind of get an idea. And then you can call up and say, hey, I would like to meet. And they've got their names listed on them.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, that's great.
Laura (Guest) :
So you know who they are. And it just makes it nice to...
Adrianne (Host) :
Right. Well, since the pets are literally inside, you can't literally window shop. Right. Now you can come to the board and say, oh, look at this guy. Look at this one. Isn't this one cute? Oh, Dominic, look at his picture. He's so cute. Look at that face. I could spoil that dog. Yes.
Laura (Guest) :
So check us out.
Adrianne (Host) :
You've almost figured out how to get the lid off the treat jar. Good job, buddy.
Laura (Guest) :
And every day on Facebook at Clinton Animal Shelter, we try to list anybody that's new that comes in. So if you've got somebody that ever gets lost, always call us or check us out on Facebook because we try to post pictures that day. Sometimes it's that evening, but we try to do it every single day. So if you've got a baby that's missing, check us out. And if nothing else, we can help put your pictures online. on our Facebook page so if anybody sees that pet we can get them back home we want them to get them back home safe and quickly absolutely you know and we all understand that sometimes they slip out that back gate or you know do things that they're not supposed to the escape artist you know so just like kids oh yeah just like kids you take your eyes off them for a minute and where'd they go right usually someplace to eat something
Adrianne (Host) :
Not the soundproofing, Dominic. That will make your tummy upset.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah.
Adrianne (Host) :
It's better than the electrical wires, but I still have to say no, okay? Sorry.
Laura (Guest) :
She's just no fun. Can you believe that?
Adrianne (Host) :
I said one.
Laura (Guest) :
There's two rules. Oh, you poor baby. Get the itches. Yeah. Did your bath make you dry? Oh. I know people who have that. Oh, sure.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yes.
Laura (Guest) :
Oh, we found the shoestring.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, my goodness. Good job. Oh, my gosh. Get it. Did you get the shoestring? I did. Do you want to tie my shoe? You are just too cute. You really, really are.
Laura (Guest) :
I love this little black spot he has in the middle of his tail. Oh, that is so cute. Isn't that cute? Like one little black dot right in the middle of his tail.
Adrianne (Host) :
And it's almost got a little white halo around it. Yeah.
Laura (Guest) :
You're pretty cute there, Dominic.
Adrianne (Host) :
You know that? Yeah, I do. Because everybody tells me so.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah. It's like, you're not going to be spoiled. No, you're not.
Laura (Guest) :
Maybe a little.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah. Yeah.
Adrianne (Host) :
All right. Was there anything else that we needed to cover today, Miss Laura?
Laura (Guest) :
Not that I can think of. It's just been a whirlwind. Yes.
Adrianne (Host) :
It's hot outside. We had a little heat wave. Make sure all your pets have water, extra water when it's hot like this. Yes, lots of water. They have to hydrate too. You drink some extra water as well. If you can, come down to the animal shelter. Walk a dog. I know you need dog walkers. Always.
Laura (Guest) :
Always.
Adrianne (Host) :
Especially the 11 o'clock and the 5 o'clock I think I saw on Facebook. Yeah. Yes. During the weekdays. So if you are wanting a chance to get out of the house a little bit more, we'll be into gorgeous fall weather here soon. Yes. 11 o'clock, 5 o'clock. And if you're not a dog walker, there's laundry, there's dishes, there's brushing kitty cats, there's paperwork. I don't even know what all needs to be done, but I know there's a lot.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah, same thing. It's just overwhelming. After a while, it's kind of like running your own home. You've got everything. You have to have all the bills paid. You have to have all the paperwork done. You have to have everything cleaned. You have to feed everybody, do all the laundry. So it's pretty close to the same thing.
Laura (Guest) :
Right.
Laura (Guest) :
So, yeah, we can use anything and everything. And if you can't donate your time, if you want to donate supplies, we use laundry detergent, don't just washing soap, lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of bleach. Use towels, use washcloths, use blankets. We do use some used sheets, not a lot. Sometimes we do that with blocking sheets. oh to to keep people calmer whenever they get upset or scared you know we put we kind of give them a little bit of solitary just to keep them calm like the new guy that just came in you know he's he's going to be pretty shook up after having the bath and the shave and all that kind of stuff he needs to calm down so he will be put in a kennel and then we will drop something light like a sheet so he can still get the cool air but it won't be he'll be quiet and calmer right so make him a little blanket fort for yeah
Adrianne (Host) :
Quiet, without being too stifling. Yeah. Because it's still warm. Yeah, you still have to have some airflow.
Laura (Guest) :
Yes, it is warm. But Purina Cat Chow is what we use. Purina Kitten Chow we use. Pedigree, as far as the dog food and puppy food. And then all kinds of treats. We go through a lot of the soft and chewy treats. The Milk Bones. Right. Yeah, we use... Big fan of those here.
Adrianne (Host) :
Katie, Katie, pet of the week.
Laura (Guest) :
Yes.
Adrianne (Host) :
Not sponsored content, we just like to use them.
Laura (Guest) :
Yes. They work. Everybody likes them. They smell good. They taste good. I mean, not that I've actually tasted one. Your secret's out, Miss Laura. I did the Three Dog Bakery once. They have the Oreos and the... Ooh, yum. A little bit less sugar content, but hey, they're still pretty good.
Adrianne (Host) :
Dominic says they smell and taste good.
Laura (Guest) :
Yes. You know, every once in a while you get one and they'll just look at you and turn their nose at you and they're like, you might be a little bit spoiled. You're not taking a dog treat, but you break these out and everybody eats them, so no worries there. Good stuff.
Adrianne (Host) :
And I love that you all have the Amazon wish list, so if I can't make it down to the shelter with a bag of something, just go online, click, click, send it right over to you.
Laura (Guest) :
Makes it easy for everyone, and it goes to where it needs to be.
Adrianne (Host) :
Whoops.
Laura (Guest) :
As we fall off the lap. Oh, he's trying. He's like, I can see it's in there, so. Oh, man, it's stuck. You have hands. Why are you not helping me? He's going to chew off the lid here in a minute.
Adrianne (Host) :
Problem solver.
Laura (Guest) :
I'll just do something I'm not supposed to. Mm-hmm. Oh, there's a chair to sit in. Oh, just wander around and explore everything. Mm-hmm.
Adrianne (Host) :
But yes, volunteers.
Laura (Guest) :
Oh, no, no, no.
Adrianne (Host) :
Not that.
Laura (Guest) :
We talked about electrical wiring.
Adrianne (Host) :
Yeah. There we go. Now we're back. Good boy. Back here. Good boy. You got the clap clap, didn't you? We were just talking about that. That was good. You came right back.
Laura (Guest) :
What a shocking experience. What's this, huh? Is this a toy? Is this a toy?
Adrianne (Host) :
Looks like it to me. Smells delicious.
Laura (Guest) :
There it is. Okay, Dominic would like to have a Frisbee wherever it is he lands.
Adrianne (Host) :
He'll throw the Frisbee and catch it, too.
Laura (Guest) :
Maybe you could be adopted by one of those.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, the disc golfers.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah, disc Frisbee golfers.
Adrianne (Host) :
Oh, you want me to do it?
Laura (Guest) :
You could help. You could be the guy that, like, whenever they hit the golf ball and say four, you could go get the Frisbee.
Adrianne (Host) :
You could be the disc retriever. Would you be a retriever or would you just keep it for yourself? You'd bring it back, wouldn't you? That's right.
Laura (Guest) :
I'm not a Labrador retriever. I'm a discus retriever. I think you'd be great for it.
Adrianne (Host) :
They have bird dogs. They should have Frisbee dogs. There you go.
Laura (Guest) :
I think he could be the first. He and his brother, we could teach him. Exactly. Or they could be a pair. Created a new breed. Oh my goodness, buddy.
Adrianne (Host) :
He's a purebred discus retriever. Beautiful.
Laura (Guest) :
Just such a good guy.
Adrianne (Host) :
He is.
Laura (Guest) :
Look at those teeny tiny baby teeth. You are just not very old, buddy. He still has the sharp needle teeth. I mean, little bitty teeth. So he's going to want to chew and chew and chew.
Adrianne (Host) :
A lot of chew toys for Dominic. But so far, he's been really good about listening.
Laura (Guest) :
Yeah, he has.
Adrianne (Host) :
On things he's not allowed to have. Sometimes he's like, oh, I didn't hear you. I'm sorry. What? No? What?
Laura (Guest) :
I'm an expert at ignoring you. Nope. He's a good listener.
Adrianne (Host) :
He's curious. I think he'll be a really good trainee.
Laura (Guest) :
Well, and I think if you get him the correct toys to train him on, you know, these are yours. They're good. And then whenever he gets into something, you just do the, that's not okay. So I think he would be just fine as long as he has something to keep him entertained. You better go have your nap. Because I'm sure that's what's going to happen here in just a few.
Adrianne (Host) :
Are you going to fall asleep in the car ride?
Laura (Guest) :
There could be a chance of that.
Adrianne (Host) :
Well, to meet Dominic or his brother, call 660-885-7999 or visit Clinton Animal Shelter on Facebook. Or come to the shelter and take a look at their dog board outside the door. Volunteer your time or funds, supplies. They can use either one very much. Foster if you can. Adopt if you can. Hello, Dominic. Is it my turn to play? Yes, you're so cute. Come on out and meet Dominic because he is so cute. Miss Laura, thanks for coming out today. Thanks for having us. Absolutely. Dominic, thank you for coming and for being a good boy. You're welcome. Thank you. Oh, there it is. Appreciate you. Thanks to our sponsors, Dave & Newman State Farm and The Dog Groomer, bringing you Katie, Katie, Pet of the Week. This has been Adrienne. Thanks to all of you for listening. Take care.
